Forest Manager 1 - Reforestation Unit Forester As the Forest Manager1, you will plan, organize, direct, monitor and administer reforestation and recreation activities on State Forests in the Astoria District.
Duties include:
Supervise, direct, and monitor the work of skilled, technical, and professional employees assigned to the Reforestation Unit.
Provide assessment, analysis and monitoring of activities for meeting Forests Management Plan goals and strategies, and District Implementation Plan objectives.
Responsible for the development and implementation of the reforestation portion of the Annual Operations Plans and District Implementation Plan.
Responsible for meeting district reforestation objectives ensuring compliance with the Oregon Forest Practices Act and the Northwest Oregon Forest Management Plan.
Assist with fiscal and biennial budgets for the reforestation unit by developing cost estimates and tracking of expenditures on a project basis to ensure fiscal accountability.
Here is what you need to Qualify:
Five years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc.
, which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation; OR Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
Note:
Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business.
If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout.
If you have an Oregon driver's license, a record check will be conducted on top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:
Experience making professional and technical decisions regarding environmental, economic and social impacts resulting from reforestation activities affecting silviculture, forest health, watershed health, wildlife, and recreational and scenic resources.
Ability to make decisions for budget and purchasing for the Reforestation unit.
Ability to problem solve and work in a collaborative manner with an integrated State Forest Team.
Experience with personnel management decisions including hiring, scheduling, coaching, training, and discipline.
Ability to effectively communicate and provide information to other agencies and the general public on State Forest Management.
Knowledge of planting, pre-commercial thinning, vegetation management, and animal damage and to assess and make recommendations.
